You Might Need a Chiropractor to Recruit Top Talent

Alignment is critical to recruit top talent. If you are feeling out of alignment when it comes to recruiting, it might be time to apply some chiropractic principles. Keeping your spine in alignment is important to your health. Misalignment in your body may start out with a tiny ache or an occasional twinge. You adjust to alleviate the pain, but the pain never really goes away. It simply hides…waiting for the worst possible moment to jump out and stop you cold in your tracks.

Alignment is also critical for successful recruiting. Like your spine, your recruiting process may have gradually shifted over time causing it to become out of alignment. The slight adjustments you make go unnoticed until you suddenly realize you lack qualified candidates, have to suffer through hundreds of mediocre resumes to find the best of the average or subpar, or experience a series of bad hiring decisions.

The American Chiropractic Association says the purpose of a spinal adjustment is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile. In plain language, a chiropractic adjustment corrects the signs and symptoms that result from abnormal alignment of vertebrae. Just like your body needs alignment to be healthy, so does your recruiting.
Recently, I was reminded of how important alignment is. It had been a few years since my last chiropractic visit. I felt fine and stopped going for monthly maintenance visits. I had lots of excuses. I was too busy, why spend money when I’m doing okay, I can stay healthy with exercise, and so forth. And that was fine…for a while.

There was no fall, accident, or other trauma. It simply happened. I had ignored the signs that something was amiss—those little aches, tiny twinges, and sudden pangs that seemed to arise from nothing. Slight changes on top of slight changes created big shifts that went unnoticed. And then BAM! One day I couldn’t walk or put any weight on my left leg. I badly needed alignment. I’m happy to say that after a few chiropractic visits, I returned to normal.

If your recruiting is out of alignment, some simple adjustments may be all you need to correct your problems and relieve your pain. Areas where you may be out of alignment include: job postings; required education, skills, and experience; company culture; or your mission, vision, and values.

Too often, I see small businesses struggle because they are unable to recruit and hire the talented staff they need. In a recent conversation with a small business owner, he told me he was ready to grow. All he lacked was the right people to help him get there. Unfortunately, when he placed a job ad, he received a thousand resumes from unqualified candidates. It was easy to see that his job ads were out of alignment.

Recruiters are experts in aligning your recruiting process. Like a chiropractor, they are experienced in the nuances of everything that affects your recruiting health. They can see where the problem lies and apply the appropriate fix to restore alignment.
